Welcome to the seventh

ATHENS Pr OBABILITY COLLOQUIUM

Saturday April 6, 2019

Math Dept, University of Athens

Thank you!

Once again, we had a wonderful colloquium! We wish to thank all the participants for making the meeting so successful, and the speakers for their great presentations. Some pictures from the three talks can be found below.

Announcement

Following the success of the first six AProC meetings [1,2,3,4,5,6], we are again organizing this year’s one-day event, centered around three top-quality talks in probability and its interface with other active areas of current research activity. The main aim is to bring together all near-Athens-based researchers in probability and related areas of mathematics and applications.

All interested faculty, post-docs and students are welcome and encouraged to attend

The talks are intended for a general (math/stat) audience and will be accessible to students without particular expertise in the specific areas of the topics discussed. Also, there will be ample time for free interaction and discussion among the participants.

Schedule

All talks will take place in room AMΦ24, on the 2nd floor of the Mathematics Dept building on the University of Athens campus. A map together with information on how to get there, can be found here.

Speakers

Andreas Kyprianou is a professor of probability theory, the Director of the Probability Laboratory, and co-Director of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics, at the University of Bath. His research interests include branching processes, superprocesses, fragmentation and coalescence, fixed point equations, travelling waves, self-similar Markov processes, optimal control, and simulation.

Jason Miller is a reader in the Statistics Laboratory at the University of Cambridge. He is a probabilist working in particular stochastic interface models, random walk, mixing times for Markov chains, and interacting particle systems. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Rollo Davidson Prize, the Whitehead Prize, and the Doeblin Prize, and he was an invited speaker at the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians.

Dimitrios Tsagkarogiannis is an associate professor at the Department of Information Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics, in the University of L'Aquila. His research work is in probability statistical mechanics, specifically on phase transitions, non-equilibrium systems, coarse-graining methods, nonlocal PDEs, large deviations, and scaling limits for interacting particle systems.
